Why Informatics?
Informatics is the science of gathering, manipulating, storing,
retrieving, and classifying recorded information.
Enterprise Informatics helps organizations
organize and control all of the structured and unstructured
information supporting the enterprise.
Structured information includes the content
from enterprise applications such as enterprise resource planning
(ERP), customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management
and financial systems. Unstructured information includes
all of the content-documents, images, drawings, audio and video
files, e-mails, faxes, etc.

The
Challenge
The practice of managing information assets at the enterprise level
remains undisciplined and unfocused in many organizations, as evidenced
by the ongoing cost and complexity of integration and the spread
of ubiquitous information, known as "infoglut."
While initiatives such as service-oriented architecture
promise rapid results, long-standing information management issues
such as semantics, accuracy, location, transparency and governance
must be resolved.
